Post-Reconstruction Era or further back—although ‘conservative’ was ‘liberal’,
and vice versa).”? I have seen some argue that because Edmund Burke founded
Conservatism, those who were Conservatives in Burke’s time (the last years of
the 1700s) and the 1900s were the real Liberals (Classical Liberals in the 19th
Century. Someone on Twitter even admonished another tweeter for letting the
Democratic Party “hijack” the word “liberal”.).
I myself am a
Republican—which is not very usual for a Jew (even a Jewish Christian, for
Jewish Christians like Susan Perlman have been both “politically liberal yet
theologically conservative Jew[s] for Jesus”.[1]) Part
of that is because (as Wayne Dupree, a Black Democrat-turned-Republican politico
often tweets), “Republicans Proudly Disclose Abolitionist roots on it’s [sic.] website, Democrats Ignore Slave
Agenda on theirs”[2]. Andrew Jackson even, for
example, was Anti Native and Anti Black. Abraham Lincoln (who himself may have
been a believing kohen[3])
freed the slaves, although he was not sure that Blacks and Whites[4] could
live together. So, the contrast reaches as far back as Conservatism or
Classical Liberalism was founded.
Therefore, I think
that the real reaction lies in that Conservatives/Classical Liberals have
always taken to heart about themselves and everyone else what Ronald Reagan
once stated about specifically Hispanics—as Geraldo Rivera, albeit a Liberal
(Classical Conservative) Republican, constantly points out (given that he’s a
Jewish Hispanic whose dad was Puerto Rican and whose mom is Ashkenazic Jewish,
and two of his influences were César Chávez and Jacob Javitts—both Republicans).

Reform Jewish kid who was Far Left and became Conservative due to a distaste
with Communism to which he once adhered.

Abolition and Civil Rights Movements, stopping the Holocaust[11] and
promoting Zionism, and being Anti Communism.

granddad was named Abraham as he was, and Ashkenazi Jews are often named for
deceased relatives. I noticed his family tree on Ancestry.com and caught that
pattern. So, I Googled “Abraham Lincoln Jewish”. His Hebrew name, is Avraham
Lin-Cohen HaKohen ben-Toma-ben-Avraham-ben-Yohanahn HaKohen v’Rivkah. Rebecca
Lincoln’s ethnicity was not identified, but a kohen—even a Crypto-Jewish one—would not marry gentiles in those
days. I had also heard that Abraham Lincoln was Jewish before, but possibly
through his mother if so. That Abraham Lincoln was (probably) Jewish explains a
lot—e.g., his desire to visit Jerusalem —maybe
a be a yishuv?
